Powergrid is at the forefront for developing the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in India to facilitate early penetration of electric vehicles in the transport sector. Issues like climate change, global warming and pollution are driving adaption of new green and clean initiatives across the various sectors worldwide. Transport sector contributes more than 20% of the global CO2 emission. Electric Vehicles are one of the solutions to reduce vehicular emission at the place of operation. Beside me there are 2 vehicles, one is Internal Combustion Engine based Vehicle and other one is Electric Vehicle. The Internal combustion engine-based vehicle gets its energy from petrol or diesel, whereas the Electric Vehicle gets its required force from electric motor & energy from the battery system. The Electric Vehicles are now facing the problem of range anxiety issue and availability of charging infrastructure issue. The range anxiety issue can be solved by customized design of the battery capacity based on the user requirement and charging infrastructure issue can be solved by widespread development of Public charging Infrastructure. For successful penetration of Electric Vehicles, E-V Charging Stations play an important role. Chargers are generally of two types, slow and fast. Slow chargers typically take 7 to 8 hours in charging and are installed in houses or offices. Fast chargers take 45 to 90 minutes in charging and are installed in public places to serve consumers. Powergrid is establishing fast E-V Charging stations across the country to facilitate charging of EVs for green and clean future of the country. Powergrid’s Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure are unmanned in nature which works with a smartphone based mobile application power E-V, which is freely downloadable on any android based smartphone. Power E-V App autodetects user’s current location and accordingly displays the nearest E-V charging stations on a map. Available, unavailable and busy chargers are displayed with colour coding. Once a charger is chosen, navigation facility is also given. Charging process is very simple. Connect the charger gun with appropriate socket of the E-V, scan QR code of the charger, enter the required number of units to charge. On clicking quick charge, the gun will be locked with the charger and the charging will start. Charging can be stopped anytime from App or it will be auto-stopped on full charge. In case of any emergency, charging can be stopped from the emergency button present on the charger. Pay the bill from App itself to unlock the charger. All the payment methods such as credit card/debit card/internet banking/ U-P-I/ Wallets et cetera, are supported to pay the bill. Hope to see you soon at Powergrid’s E-V Charging Station.
