Once there was a boy, happy go lucky, optimistic and care free. He was the third in six siblings and was the elder son. He grew up in one of the seven sisters, Assam. Being the son of a tea garden employee their condition was a bit tight, but he grew up in the lap of nature. When he was a mere six year old human, he was sent to the town, for studies. There he lived with his parental relatives in a 2 room house with about 8 members in the family. Not much into studies, he was quite into sports and was a big time extrovert. He loved playing football with his friends with a makeshift ball. He was happy. He wanted to be tea garden manager and work amongst the nature, just like his father. One fine day, his one uncle who was a government servant, took him to an armed force recruiting centre. He had no plans to enter the gate swarmed with army aspirants, but he was pulled inside due to his height and physical appearance. Days later, he got to know that his 17 year old self had been recruited into the Indian army as soldier. That is how life threw him out of his own plan and put him into the destiny plan. He had completed his high school and college under the aegis of the army. Life was doing just fine. One day, he decided to quit the army and work in a corporate world. He told his commanding officer about this. His commanding officer made him reconsider his decision and handed him a special commission officer application, and asked him to sit for the exam. Where everybody was going crazy about the exam, he prepared minimally and went. When the results came in, out of everybody only 2 people got selected and one of them was him. He stepped into the Indian military academy and after one year of rigorous training, he was a commissioned officer of the Indian army. Donning the lieutenant rank on his shoulders. Time passed and he kept on adding many feathers to his hat. He is still as optimistic and happy go lucky and grateful as he had been for several decades. At this moment, few days ago he retired from his service to the nation. He is none other than Lieutenant colonel Niru pom Purkayastha, who is also known as sanjoo by his loved ones. On behalf of all the civilians, we wish him a very very happy and a fantastic retired life.
