Being the eldest (and tallest) in the group she decided that she would take charge. She was also the most sensible and the only one who could drive the ancient, rusty campervan that would be home for the next 60 days. “Will all of you stop fighting! We need to come up with a plan.” she said and was slightly surprised to see them all stop dead in their tracks and stare goggle eyed at her waiting for her next instruction. Debbie was 17 and had only recently passed her driving test (on the fourth attempt), growing up in such an eccentric family she was not surprised by the contents of the envelope now lying open on the table in the van, but was struggling to understand why now, so soon after the challenges of the last year. Tanek was the first to break the silence “Well, we’re listening” he said , his strong Northern accent booming through the chilly evening air. “I’m thinking” stated Debbie still trying to think through how she was going to get this eclectic group of friends from here to Middlesbrough in 60 days! Where even was Middleburgh? She was busy trying to picture a map of the country when she realised Tanek and Josh had once again started to argue. “Of course you hold it this way up, look at the arrow!” said Josh in his usual ‘know it all’ way. “That arrow signifies North, not up!” Tanek was the self declared ‘smart’ one in the group and generally got under everyone's skin. Despite his external confidence he was terrified of everything and was not at all happy about the journey that lay ahead. “You don’t have to make him feel stupid all of the time” declared Preti, Tanek’s younger sister and Josh’s number one fan. “He’s just trying to help”. Preti was dressed from head to toe in purple, she always wore purple, she said it made her feel happy inside, but no-one knew why. She smiled at Josh who quickly turned away and walked towards the van. “I am simply pointing out the basics of cartography,” Tanek declared smuggly. “Right first things first we need a phone” Debbie declared, once again taking control and putting a stop the bickering. They all slowly turned to Charlie who, as always had her eyes glued to her phone. “Charlie I don’t suppose there is any chance we could borrow your…” At that moment they all heard a peculiar noise coming from the inside the camper van...
