MY TRIP TO THE U.S.A. by Elate E. Luters. I will start off by telling you how it came to pass that I should travel to the U.S.A.It as happened that I married a soldier in the American Army, and decided to make my home in his country. It seemed that I had been waiting so long for that all important paper to arrive, my sailing orders. Finally it came, and I was to travel on the "Queen Mary". I finished my packing, except for a few things needed on my last remaining days at home. The day before I was to leave home, orders came that our trip was delayed owing to a shipping strike in New York , where the "Queen Mary" s docked. On Saterday further orders came through, I was to leave on the following Monday.Said goodbye to Edna, my eldest sister on Sunday, as she had to go back to camp, easehe was still being in the W.A.A.F. On Monday morning , February 18th, my taxi called for me, so at ten o'clock I said my goodbyes to man and gran, my and and kid sister going with me to station. Many of the neigh- he on my way, At the atation, (The Great Western Railway at Cardiff ) there was the usual hustle and bustle, and many peaple were gathered at our special train, where babies and mothers both were crying. I said goodbye to dad and Marjorie, and waved till they were out of aight. I sat down to find all my companions red eyed, but we got to talking and finally cheered up. We stopped at Bristol and Picked up a few more red eyed rides, and proceeded to our last stop, Salisbury. There we were sorted out into special buses, and taken to Tidworth Camp at Forham Down, mess hall for dinner. I was Bed 1 in Hut M. Next to me was a girl from my home town, and we palled up together. We had a very nice Red Cross and spent most of our spare time there. We had nice beds, good food, which was dished
