Hello everyone! Thank you for watching my video. Please subscribe and enjoy the video... Today I would like to talk about swordtail fries. The swordtail females are livebearers meaning they do not lay eggs but they give birth to their young. Once they get pregnant, they will have a dark spot on the back of their bellies. My swordtail female was pregnant for about 28 days before it was ready to give birth. I noticed that the female swordtail was hanging at the bottom of the tank, flexing its fins and at times it was acting erratic and its belly was sort of square shaped. I took the hint and separated her from the rest of the fish and placed her inside breeding box. I bought different types of breeding boxes to see which one would be the best one to use. I did not like any of the breeding boxes that came with a suction cup but I quite enjoyed having a floating one, in fact I bought two of them to contain the swordtail fries. My swordtail female had gone mental as soon as I placed her in the breeding box trying to escape it. I placed an artificial plant within the breeding box with her hoping to calm her down and get her ready to give birth and surprisingly, as soon as the plant was placed within the box with her, she instantly calmed, flexed her fins and minimised her movements and started giving birth. She gave birth to 39 babies. As soon as she gives birth, take your female out of the breeding box to avoid stressing it more. Also, do not forget that the grown up fishes are mistaking fries for food and will not hesitate to eat them. One of my swordtail females ended up eating all of its babies as she was giving birth. I kept my fries in the box for about 2 weeks before placing them into another tank to give them the space to grow. Through trial and error, I found the best food for the fries to be frozen brine shrimps. They love it! If you are going to use frozen fish food, make sure that you are using a little bit of the water from the tank to dissolve the ice completely before putting it into your tank. As seen on the video, my swordtail fries are transferred into another tank separate from other fishes....
