Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a devastating condition affecting patients in the third to fifth decades of life that usually progresses to femoral head collapse, often leading to total hip arthroplasty (THA). Although the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of ONFH have been studied extensively, there is no clear consensus as to its exact origin. ONFH is “not a specific disease, but rather the end result of various conditions, ultimately, with impairment of blood to the femoral head.
