Hello children. Hope you all are doing well. Welcome to E-learning platform. I am Aruna Alegavi, your social science teacher for grade 5. Today our topic is Coming of the British. In 1885, the Indian National Congress I N C was formed. The purpose of I NC was to get educated Indians involved in ruling the country. The first meeting was held in Bombay now called as Mumbai. I NC did not try for the independence but drew attention of British towards the problems faced by Indians and asked for reforms but British ignored them. Later through the efforts of Lala Lajpat Rai and Bal Gangadhar Tilak it became a mass movement. In 1905, British divided the state of Bengal into two halves. This was done to create emnity between Hindus and Muslims. Lal-Bal-Pal encouraged common people to protest against the partition. The partition was stopped in 1911.
