In the ancient world, there lived a creature named Medusa, one of the three Gorgons. She was feared throughout the land because of her terrifying appearance and deadly power. Her hair was made of twisting snakes, and anyone who looked directly into her eyes was instantly turned to stone. Stories told that Medusa had once been a beautiful woman who served in Athena’s temple. However, after defying the sacred laws of the temple, she was transformed into a Gorgon. Her beauty was replaced with a frightening appearance, and her gaze became a weapon that brought death to anyone who encountered it. Medusa lived alone in a dark cave beyond the reach of ordinary people. Around her lay the stone figures of those who had entered her home and looked upon her face. Warriors and travellers feared her because her power threatened anyone who came near. When Perseus was sent to defeat Medusa, his task was to protect others from the danger she represented. The gods gave him weapons and guidance, including Athena’s polished shield, which allowed him to approach Medusa without meeting her deadly gaze. Using the reflection in the shield, Perseus found Medusa while she slept. He lifted his sword and cut off her head before she could turn him to stone. Even after her death, Medusa’s head retained its power, and anyone who looked directly at it was turned to stone. Perseus used this power to defeat his enemies and later returned the head to Athena, who placed it upon her shield.
