Maximum Altitude 400 feet Above Ground Level. If you are within a 400foot radius of a structure, you may fly up to 400 feet above the top of that structure. Maximum Speed 100 miles per hour, which equals 87 knots. Do not mix up miles per hour and knots on the test. Minimum Visibility 3 Statute Miles. Remember, statute miles, not nautical miles. Cloud Clearance 500 feet below clouds, and 2,000 feet horizontally from clouds. Think 500 below, 2,000 to the side. Drone Weight Limits Your drone must weigh from 0.55 pounds up to less than 55 pounds. That means 54.99 pounds maximum at takeoff. Drones under 0.55 pounds do not require registration. Alcohol Limits 0.04 percent blood alcohol concentration, and at least 8 hours from bottle to throttle. You cannot fly while under the influence or hungover. Accident Reporting Must be reported within 10 calendar days to the FAA if an injury causes loss of consciousness, or if property damage exceeds 500 dollars to repair or replace, whichever is lower. If you fly near a 600foot tower sitting on a 1,000foot hill, how high can you fly The answer is 1,000 feet Above Ground Level directly over the tower, because you get 400 feet above the 600foot structure. Do not add the hill elevation unless the test specifically asks for Mean Sea Level. Trap 2 Accident reporting threshold. If a crash causes 450 dollars of damage to a car and 100 dollars to a fence, total damage is 550 dollars. You MUST report it within 10 days because it exceeds 500 dollars. Remember, damage to your own drone does not count. Trap 3 Military Operations Areas. You do NOT need permission to fly in a Military Operations Area, but you must exercise extreme caution.
