Pride within the Scout Association is an experience like no other. The Scout Association is welcome of anybody regardless of their gender identity or sexu ality. As a gay man myself, I felt that Pride London, and the Scout Association’s volunteering in Pride London was very welcoming, and that Scouting is welcoming to everyone and anyone. This was my first Pride volunteering with The Scout Association, and it felt welcoming and inviting throughout the entire day. If I was given the opportunity to do it again, I would. Being from an Asian family, I have found it hard to come to terms with my sexuality, and to come out to friends and family. Being involved in the Scout Association from a Beaver, then to Cubs, then to Scouts, then to a Young Leader and then a Adult Leader, has given me a lifelong network of friends, and knowledge that I have been honoured to be able to learn. I have still kept in contact with my Beaver, Cubs, and Scouts Leaders, who have known me since I started Scouting, and have now become friends. Being involved in Scouting has helped me to come to terms with my sexuality and knowing that it would have no impact on my volunteering within Scouting, and that I would be accepted, for who I am. I was gutted to hear that Pride would not be going ahead this year, but hopefully next year, it comes back bigger and better!
