Some people think that there is no need to require students to learn a foreign language at school. Do you think that students should be required to learn a foreign language at school Why or why not In todays society, languages play a pivotal role in global communications. Though some people say that it is unnecessary, students should be required to learn foreign languages as part of their school education. I believe that learning other languages has the following two benefits for students. Knowing a different language will help students to communicate with more people in the future. Even if they are not perfectly fluent in the language that they learn, having a certain amount of knowledge in another language will help them to interact and make connections with people who speak that language. Students will be able to learn more about the world and create new opportunities for themselves through such encounters with people from other countries. Moreover, when students learn another language, they learn more than just the language itself. Through studying another language, students are also introduced to the history, society, and culture of the country in which the target language is spoken. This will help them to broaden their perspective and nurture a flexible understanding towards the cultures and values of people from other countries. Gaining an insight into another country will also allow students to view their own country through an objective lens. Knowing about ones own country and also having a high tolerance for diversity will benefit students in the future when they have to work in a rapidly globalising world. Students should definitely be required to learn a foreign language at school since it will help them to gain valuable skills that they need to live and work in todays everglobalising world. Knowing another language can open up a whole new world for young students.
