Each individual should be held fully responsible for their own health, so governments should not be responsible for covering the medical fees of their people. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement Some believe that individuals should be held responsible for managing their own physical wellbeing and claim that people should have to pay fully for any healthcare they receive. They believe medical care should not be provided completely for free, since this may cause people to take less care of managing their health. However, I strongly believe the government should still cover part of their peoples medical fees as a form of social welfare. Medical treatment is often extremely expensive. If governments did not provide financial support to pay for healthcare, people with low socioeconomic status would not be able to receive medication. It is impoverished people who need the most medical care since they more often develop malnutrition and are exposed to unhealthy working environments which have negative effects on their health. Furthermore, some people have innate health problems or are born with different deficiencies which make them more vulnerable to certain sicknesses. In such cases, it would not be fair for these people to have to pay high medical costs in order to receive sufficient treatment. They are not at fault for their chronic health conditions, so the government should support their wellbeing through financial aid. Finally, many people develop certain health issues due to their living environments. For example, people who live in large cities may be more prone to respiratory problems. In addition, those living in remote areas with unhygienic conditions may be more likely to be affected by infectious diseases. It is often difficult for individuals to prevent or avoid maladies caused by their surrounding environment, so it is only fair that governments help treat these sicknesses. Governments should be responsible for protecting the wellbeing of their people by providing healthcare to everyone at an affordable price. Therefore, they should cover a reasonable proportion of peoples medical expenses.
