Peace be with you I am Ermogene, Holy Bishop, celebrated on November 24th. For some scholars I am the last Bishop of Agrigento before the Arab conquest of the city, who died on November 24th of the nineteenth century, as the Synaxarion of Constantinople also recalls. Others, however, place me still at the head of the diocese at the entrance of the Arabs. In any case, it is said that, as the eleventh bishop of the city, I governed the diocese with zeal and doctrine. Scholars also disagree about my death some include me among the martyrs of uncertain date, others maintain that I ended my days in peace. Perhaps the truth is that, a martyr of the last persecution, having survived the suffering, I ended my life in peace.
