Peace be with you, I am Saint Gregory of Agrigento, bishop. There are various hypotheses about my historical placement. The most reliable says that I was born in 559 near Agrigento and, at eighteen, I left for the East, staying in Jerusalem, Antioch and Constantinople. Having gained a reputation as a holy and wise man, after various events and several years, I arrived in Rome where I was appointed bishop of Agrigento. Here, I fell victim to a plot hatched by my enemies but emerged victorious and rehabilitated. Loved by the faithful, I dedicated my life to apostolic work, to charitable works, to the formation of the clergy and I transformed the current temple of concord into a Christian church, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. Today, even the Greek churches of Byzantine rite remember me and celebrate me.
