I am Empedocles. Philosopher, born in the 5th century BC from a noble and wealthy family of Akragas. PreSocratic, I am the first author of antiquity who tries to bring together philosophical concepts and religious beliefs. I have written about medicine, politics, natural sciences, theology and mysticism. I have actively participated in the political life of this city in favor of democracy but, precisely because of my political ideas, I was exiled. The Siceliots considered me a prophet and attributed thaumaturgical powers to me and this fueled myths and legends that, even today, surround my name. One for all, the cut I had made on the hill of Akragas to allow fresh air to enter the city and defeat the malaria that afflicted it at that time. Even my death is shrouded in mystery For some I died in exile. For my disciples I was taken up into heaven. For others, I voluntarily threw myself into Etna to demonstrate my demideity.
