Greetings I am Pistilo. Ecista because, together with Aristònoo, I led the expedition of colonists from Gela that culminated with the foundation of Akragas in 580 BC. Leaving Gela, after a few days of travel, we arrived in a place blessed by the gods a short distance from the sea, there was a lush valley between two rivers, Akragas and Hipsas, and protected by two hills to the north. Immediately, I imagined our new city in that splendid site the houses, the temples, the walls, a theater, an emporium at the mouth of the largest river ... certainly it was the gods who had guided our steps up to there. And that was how we founded the first urban nucleus of what Pindar, one day, would define the most beautiful city of mortals.
