....Title The Ember’s Stand.... The vacuum of space stretched in endless darkness, punctuated by the fiery hues of explosions and the cold glimmer of distant stars. Within this abyss, the UNSC frigate Resilient Dawn limped toward safety, its hull scarred, and its engines sputtering with faint power. The Covenant warship, a menacing CCSclass battlecruiser, loomed in pursuit — a shark sensing blood in the water. On the deck of the Resilient Dawn, Spartan Commander Blitz of COG Fireteam stood tall, his orange visor reflecting the chaos outside. He clenched his fists as the tactical display flickered, showing the Covenant cruiser closing the distance. Time was running out. “Status” Blitz barked, his voice cutting through the static of a damaged comm channel. “Engines at 20, shields depleted, and MAC system offline,” reported Lt. Marin, the ships tactical officer. “If they get close enough to fire their plasma beam...” She didn’t need to finish. Everyone on the bridge knew what was coming. Blitz’s mind raced. His team — COG Fireteam — were specialists in aggressive, highrisk combat. But taking on a Covenant cruiser headtohead That was suicide. Unless... he thought, an idea sparking in his mind like the crackle of plasma fire. He activated the comms to his team. “COG Fireteam, report to the hangar bay, now. We’re taking the fight to them.” ...In the Hangar Bay... Blitz stood before his team Spartan Tetra, the demolitions expert Spartan Strix, the sniper and Spartan Havoc, the bruteforce powerhouse. Each Spartan was already clad in Mjolnir armor, their weapons gleaming in the dim hangar lights. “Commander, are we seriously boarding that thing” Tetra asked, her helmet tilting toward the Covenant warship visible through the hangar shield. “We are,” Blitz affirmed. “We’ll take a Pelican, slip past their defenses, and plant charges along their weapon systems. If we can cripple their beam cannon, we might give the Resilient Dawn enough time to escape.” Strix chuckled dryly. “Risky. I like it.” Havoc slammed his gauntleted fists together. “Let’s turn that cruiser into scrap.” Blitz’s visor glowed as he looked toward the hangar exit. “We fight hard, we fight smart. And we don’t back down. Let’s move.” Infiltration The Pelican dropped silently into the void, its engines muffled by stealth protocols. Blitz piloted the dropship with precision, weaving through debris and sensor blind spots until they were right beneath the Covenant warship’s underbelly. “Docking in three... two...” Blitz counted down. A hiss of decompressing air, the thud of magnetic clamps, and the Spartans were inside. They emerged into the dim, violetlit corridors of the Covenant vessel. The hum of energy pulsed through the walls, and the air reeked of methane and ozone. “Keep it quiet until we can’t,” Blitz whispered. The Spartans moved like shadows. ...Sabotage and Skirmish... They reached the ship’s primary weapon control room — a cavernous chamber humming with power conduits feeding the dreaded plasma beam. Tetra set the explosives while Strix covered the entrance. Havoc stood by, ready for any bruteforce backup. Blitz scanned the area, feeling the minutes slip away. The charges were set. “Time to get loud,” Tetra whispered. Blitz nodded. “Do it.” The first explosion shook the chamber. Klaxons wailed. Covenant elites, grunts, and jackals flooded the corridors, plasma bolts streaking through the air. COG Fireteam sprang into action. Blitz’s rifle barked out rapidfire bursts, cutting down a pair of jackals. Strix’s sniper shot pierced an elite’s shields before dropping it with a precise headshot. Havoc charged forward, tackling a grunt and tossing it like a ragdoll into a cluster of enemies. Tetra lobbed grenades, filling the air with fire and shrapnel. “Blitz, we’ve got incoming — heavy incoming” A hulking Hunter duo lumbered into the chamber, their massive shields reflecting the flickering light. “Strix, on me” Blitz ordered. “We’ll distract Tetra, blow the second set of charges.” The Spartans fought with relentless fury. Blitz weaved between the Hunters, unloading his rifle into their exposed backs. Strix’s sniper rounds found their mark, staggering one of the armored behemoths. ...A Desperate Escape... “Charges are live” Tetra shouted. “We’ve got two minutes” “Time to leave” Blitz ordered. COG Fireteam fought their way back to the Pelican, plasma fire snapping at their heels. An explosion rocked the ship as the weapon control room detonated. The cruiser’s beam cannon sputtered, its deadly energy dispersing harmlessly into space. The Spartans clambered aboard the Pelican, Blitz yanking the controls and veering away just as another explosion tore through the Covenant ship. The Resilient Dawn hailed them. “Blitz, the Covenant ship is crippled. We’re charging the Slipspace drive now” “Good work, team,” Blitz said, his voice calm but filled with pride. “We bought them the time they needed.” As the Pelican reentered the frigate’s hangar and the Resilient Dawn vanished into Slipspace, Blitz finally allowed himself a breath. The Covenant warship lay broken behind them, fires consuming its oncemighty form. Victory was never guaranteed, but today, against the odds, COG Fireteam stood tall.
