December 1937. Japanese troops enter the city of Nanking, China, and over the course of six weeks, a bloodbath unfolds. Known as the Nanking Massacre, it is estimated that 300,000 civilians and prisoners of war were murdered, while thousands of women were systematically raped. Even today, the event remains a source of ongoing tension between China and Japan, as disputes over the extent of the atrocities and Japan’s acknowledgment continue to fuel animosity and political strain.
