Axis has developed a novel, 2-cycle engine; utilizing dual induction scavenging, (with partial supercharging boost) - between each combustion cycle. Providing over 50% more mechanical efficiency; in comparison with otto cycle/4-stroke engines of the same capacity. Axis Motor Corporation has global patent pending status on their novel 2-cycle engine and their novel 2-cycle electric-combustion series hybrid drivetrain. To describe Axis 2-Cycle engine in detail, firstly, Axis adopts a radial configuration for smooth balanced power and torque, with a small footprint and low weight. In terms of drivetrain configuration, Firstly, axis power unit drives an axial flux generator - that powers the onboard battery, supercapacitor and ultimately; two rear wheel drive axial flux motors. In our combustion-electric drivetrain we achieve three forms of waste energy conversion: 1. Via regenerative braking (electrical energy) from each axial flux drive motor 2. From regenerative braking (in the form of electrical energy) from the axial flux generator. 3. Air compression from the AX-2SR rotary screw (during deceleration/braking), from angular momentum In Axis AX-2SR (2litre) radial engine, we achieve a 2-cycle combustion process; with a novel scavenging system that we will now explain in detail: Utilizing either diesel (compression ignition) or spark ignited petrol variants, Axis 2-cycle engine, utilizes a rotary screw type supercharger that merges output flow to both cylinder (inlet ports) - for positive boost scavenging (and partial supercharging), and secondly diverts positive flow to cylinder outlet manifolds through air amplifiers that create a vacuum, or negative pressure zone at each combustion cylinder exhaust outlet. As each piston completes it’s power stroke, pistons move over first, cylinder depressurization ports (above the exhaust ports), and secondly: inlet valves open via roller bearing cam operated (pushrods), fixed about the crank shaft drive. Lower exhaust ports then are opened by BDC position of the pistons relative to the combustion cylinder, and ultimately; exhaust combustion gases are then expelled via positive (inlet valve) positive scavenge pressure AND via negative pressure created through each air amplifier at each exhaust outlet – with full control over the air flow of each outlet and inlet by varying the flow rate and pressures, according to the ECU demands. As the pistons then retract over the lower exhaust ports, the inlet valve remains upon (just until the cylinder depressurization ports are covered), to finally ensure complete exhaust gas scavenging, and allowing clean air (and partial supercharge boost) of each combustion cylinder, prior to the compression stroke commencing – to the next power stroke. Fuel is injected via high pressure (common rail) fuel injectors at the appropriate time, relative to maximum combustion and optimal fuel atomization. In Axis novel 2-cycle radial engine, we have eliminated friction, at only half that of any comparable 4-cycle engine, whilst effectively doubling the output power, from the same capacity. The results of this are lowered fuel consumption, and increased power output, with a steady torque relative to horsepower at low rpm’s and throughout the rev range. Axis Model-A coupe features a power output of over 600bhp/1000Nm of torque - with a curb weight of less than 1100kg. As the Axis drivetrain is fully electric, the vehicle delivers instant torque, without the use of a gearbox or clutch. Axis novel engine scavenging technology now makes the 2-cycle engine commercially viable, to deliver a new, efficient internal combustion engine, for that next phase of efficiency, sustainability, and (of course) mega performance.
