Yesterday Gary, one of Fred’s friends called him and told him that his sister Clare was arriving by train from Scotland. Unfortunately, he couldn’t meet her at the station so he asked Fred if he could go instead. Of course, Gary lent Fred his car. He told Fred he had also informed his sister of this. Fred couldn’t wait to meet Clare again. He had always had a crush on her. She was the girl of his dreams, but he had never had the courage to propose to her. When he was with her he always felt terribly shy. When the train arrived, he met her. She looked happy to see him. He helped her with the luggage to the car. She was rather tired after the long journey, so Fred took her straight home. Before she got off, she asked him, “Shall we go out together tomorrow night?” Fred couldn’t believe his ears. Was he dreaming? Fred borrowed his father’s car the evening after. He wanted to make a good impression. His father reluctantly gave him the key. All went well. Fred spent a pleasant evening with Clare. First, they went to a restaurant and then into a pub for a night cuppa. There they met many other friends. On the way home, suddenly a car rushed out of a side street and accidentally damaged the bumper of Fred’s car. In the evening, at home, Fred apologized to his father and explained what had happened. His father was angry at first but gradually he calmed down when he realized that it was not Fred’s fault.
