The plane landed ten minutes later than Adrian and his sister Pauline expected. They had a good journey and the weather was fine in Cairo. They left the airport half an hour later and it was on the way to the city that Pauline found out that they had left one of their cases at the airport. She made Adrian count the cases again and again but in vain. One of the cases had been left outside the Customs. They couldn’t do of anything to do at the time for the coach was heading rapidly towards the outskirts of the city and Adrian’s Arabic was too poor to explain the situation to the driver. Meanwhile, Pauline was anxiously looking for something in her handbag. At last, she looked at me sorrowfully and said, tears in her eyes, she had left the passports in the suitcase they had left at the airport. That was the last straw. Something had to be done now, no matter how bad Adrian’s Arabic was. He went to the front of the coach to the driver and asked him to stop it. He didn’t seem to understand what Adrian said and smiled at him. Adrian repeated the performance once more, saying again and again the few words he knew and gesticulating wildly hoping the driver might understand what he wanted. Suddenly, rather irritated, the driver turned and looked at Adrian, who tried to smile, but the driver stopped the car and drew up by the kerb. Adrian was sure that something that he had said had insulted him. In no time, Adrian opened the door dragging his sister behind and found himself in the street running after a taxi. Fortunately, they found the suitcase where they had left it. The only thing left for them to do now was to find their way back to the city.
