Fred wanted to get married because he was tired of living alone. He asked Mary and she said she would marry him, if he promised never to love anyone else. Then he proposed to Celia but she said she wouldn’t marry him, unless he gave her a Rolls Royce. Next, he asked Rosalind to marry him, but she said she had to finish her university first. Fred couldn’t wait that long and he next proposed to Julia. She agreed to marry him on the condition that they could live in London. Fred couldn’t agree to that because he hated London. “Supposing that we live in London in the winter and in the country in summer, would that suit you?” Fred asked. “Sorry, no” Julia replied. “I haven’t been able to stand in the country since I was a child. I was bitten by a dog and then a horse kicked me.” The following day Fred met a girl whose appearance and personality he found attractive. Luckily, she was equally attracted to him. “You’re everything that I dreamed of,” Fred said. She said she would marry him thinking she was the only girl he had ever proposed to.
