Last summer John and his two friends David and Lawrence decided to spend a holiday in the mountains. They were very fond of climbing and couldn’t wait to reach a village at the foot of the mountains. They looked at the map. The village was only thirty miles away. They set out for that village early in the morning because they wanted to be there around midday. On the way, they stopped in a country pub and had breakfast. After travelling for about thirty miles there was still no sign of the village. Evidently, the map they had wasn’t a very good one. It got dark and it began to rain. It was difficult to see the road. Suddenly the car stopped. At first, they thought they had run out of petrol, but it wasn’t that the problem. There was something wrong with the engine because they heard a strange noise when they tried to start it again. They decided to spend the night in the car. They had little food with them, only a few biscuits and some chocolate. John was a poor sleeper, so he got out of the car and went for a walk up the hill. From the top of the hill he saw the lights of the village they were looking for. The three friends pushed the car to the top of the hill and after fifteen minutes they were in the village where they found a B&B for the night.
