Kerry’s grandmother lived in a small country village. She rarely went to town. She preferred the lovely atmosphere of the country, far from the crowd, the traffic and the fumes of the town. Every weekend Kerry went to see her. Last weekend she was surprised not to find her in the garden. Her granny usually spent most afternoons there when the weather was fine and yesterday was a really fine day. Kerry called her, but there was no answer. Then she went to the back of the house thinking that she was in the kitchen. She was there. She never forgot to make a cake for Kerry. She was so busy preparing a cake that she didn’t hear the call. After a good lunch Kerry asked her granny, “Have you ever been to a big city?” “No, never” answered the old lady. “Have you ever stayed at a really good hotel?” “No, never”, said the old lady again. “Why are you asking me all these questions?” “Well”, explained Kerry, “next weekend I’m going to take you to Edinburgh. What do you think about that?” “I’m sure I’ll enjoy it a lot.” Was the lady’s answer. Kerry and her grandmother spent a splendid weekend in Edinburgh. On her return, the old lady told her friends about her visit to the zoo. She had seen the elephant for the first time. “This great big animal”, she said to her friends, “was picking up buns with its tail and I daren’t tell you what it was doing with them.”
