Harry was an artist. His family convinced him to plan an exhibition. He had never done something like this before and left all the arrangements to a young man called Green. He had a talent for organization. He went to Harry’s studio and, with the help of Harry’s wife, selected the pictures for the exhibition. He personally supervised the hanging of the pictures. Most important of all, he invited all the right people: critics, reporters and of course people with money to spend on paintings. Green assured Harry that everything would go well. Harry was pleased, but he was rather shy and refused to meet the people who had bought his paintings. “One picture especially attracted attention,” Green told him. “Your wife and I decided to call it ‘Midnight’ because all the colours are very dark.” Harry couldn’t recognize the picture from this description. He was puzzled, but he said nothing. When everyone had left, he went to see the painting which had attracted so much attention. He laughed so much that Green came across to see what the matter was. Trying hard to hide his amusement, Harry told him that one of his son’s paintings had been hung up by mistake.
