Mrs Young didn’t know that her husband wanted to buy a present for her. He said he wanted to go for a walk. But he took a train into the centre of London instead. Then he went to Oxford Street. He wanted to buy a present at one of the big stores there. But when he was in Oxford Street, a bus knocked him down. And this had a very strange result. When he woke up in hospital, he couldn’t remember anything, not even his name. He didn’t have any identification on him so nobody knew who he was. Ten years went by. In those ten years Mr Young started a new life. He took a new name and found a new job. He also met another woman, Nancy Lewis, and he promised to marry her. He was on his way to church top marry her last week when he had another accident. This time he ran into a lorry in his car. He hit his head and woke up in hospital again. Suddenly he could remember everything again. He remembered his old name, his address and, most important of all, the fact that he was already married. He phoned his wife from the hospital and tried to explain everything. He also phoned Nancy. Both women refused to believe his story. They both thought he was lying.
