My old friend Harry had been teaching English abroad for years. He had lived in the Mediterranean before he returned to England. He planned to spend the rest of his life in the country. He bought a lovely cottage in the Yorkshire dales and went to live there. Almost immediately, he began to complain about the weather. It was still summer, but it rained continuously and it was often rather cold. After so many years of sunshine, Harry got a shock. He had completely forgotten what the English weather was like. He had to do something. In the end it was more than he could bear. The dream he had had for so many years ended there. Harry had thought of everything except the weather. He sold the cottage and left the country. During his career he had also taught English in Italy where he had many friends. He called one of them and asked him to find a small house for him. After two days, his friend called him back and said, “You’re lucky, Harry! A house is on sale not far from mine and it’s a bargain.”
