Last Saturday was Kerry’s Mom’s birthday. Clare, this is her name, invited all her friends. At first, she wanted to take them to a restaurant. You know, there’s a restaurant just round the corner. Then she changed her mind. She had attended a cooking course and she wanted to show her friends how good she was at cooking. On Friday afternoon she asked Kerry, “Can you help me to cook, dear?”. Kerry couldn’t wait to help her mom. They spent all the afternoon make cakes and rolls. Kerry’s mom had bought a salmon at the market and cooked it. Kerry was laying the table and she went into the kitchen to get spoons, forks and knives. And there she shouted and called her mom: “The cat is on the table. She’s eating the salmon!” Her mom came into the kitchen and threw a shoe at the cat. “Oh, my God! What can I do now?” she kept on repeating. She was desperate. “Don’t worry!”, Kerry said to her. “I have an idea. I put slices of cucumber on the damage the cat has done.” The guests ate everything and congratulated Clare and on the delicious meal she had prepared. After the meal, while the guests were chatting and drinking, Clare asked Kerry, “Can you make some coffee, dear?” When Kerry went into the kitchen she couldn’t believe her eyes. The cat was lying on the floor. She was dead. When Clare told her friends what had happened, they all rushed to the hospital.
