Ricky needs going on a long holiday after passing his exams. But he can’t. He’s absolutely broke and simply must find a temporary job. He tried at the Lion Hotel. They sometimes need waiters at this time of the year. He called in at the hotel, but unfortunately, they had already taken on two extra waiters for the holidays. What a pity! Because, it’s a good job, with meals and as well as tips. Last year he went fruit picking. A lot of hard work and not much money in it. This morning his father told him that a friend - the manager of a factory, that makes shoes, sometimes needs extra help. He will have an interview with the manager on Monday morning. Ricky thinks he’s lucky because the manager is a funny old chap. In fact, most of his father’s friends are good fellows. Besides Ricky heard another good thing. There are lots of nice girls working at that factory. He thought to himself, “I wish Sonia will be among those girls!” He met her at a party some weeks before and he hasn’t seen her since then. He also asked around, but nobody knew where she lived. He even tried on WhatsApp but in vain.
