The Paulicians are a sect that arose in Armenia in the second half of the 7th century. in the 8th-9th centuries it became widespread in Asia Minor and in the European possessions of the Byzantine Empire. The Paulicians considered their goal to be the preservation of the original purity of Christianity, its liberation from all “elements” of paganism and idolatry. In Eastern Armenia, the analogue of the Paulicians were the Tondrakians.
