My main topic is Civil war, and I choose to work with The Troubles. The Troubles was a conflict between Northen Ireland and the UK. The conflict was mainly about if Northen Ireland should or should not be a part of the rest of the United Kingdom. One of the reasons why I choose this topic, is because it is a conflict that has a long history, and even though that The Troubles didn’t start till 1968, There is still a lot of background for the conflict. The war was also something that effected at lots of people, and for many people it still affects them. Overall, I think it’s a really interesting topic, and there is a lot to talk about. The conflicted was mostly caused by religion in Northen Ireland. The Catholics saw themself as Irish, and they wanted an independent Ireland, without any control from the UK. And the Protestants saw themselves as British, and they wished to stay in the UK. As said before the conflicted has a lots of background history. You could say that the war started in 1600 (sixteen hundred) When the English settlers tried to colonize Ireland, this is of course not the only reason why the war started, but it is definitely a part of it. The IRA or Irish Republican Army fought for an independent Ireland. They did not want to be a part of the UK. It was an army who tried to stop Britten from controlling Ireland. They fought violent and did everything to protect Ireland. The IRA is on the catholic side, the whole goal of the IRA was to remove The Northen Ireland from the United Kingdom. Bloody Sunday happened Sunday 30th January 1972. 1000s of people traveled to Derry to protest against the British policy. The British soldiers opened a fire during the Nationalist civil rights march. Fourteen completely innocent people were killed, and many other people were hurt. All the shooting also led to many people wanting to join the IRA, so they could help to fight against the UK. This whole demonstration started an anger among the nationalists, and it led to al lots of protest and violent fight over the following years. The Good Friday Agreement happened Friday 10th April 1998, it was a political deal it was made to get peace after 30 years of violent fight in Northen Ireland (also known as the troubles.) More than 3500 people lost their life and 30 thousand got hurt during The Troubles, and many of them were innocent. The troubles as a war were official over in 1998 after The Good Friday Agreement. Even though that the war is over, it’s still something that affects many of the people who live in that area. The peace wall is still up in Northern Ireland to protect the people who live there. And the amount of peace walls has increased from 18 till more than 60. And many of the people who grow up in The Northern Ireland are taught to hate Ireland, and Ireland got taught to not like the Northen Ireland. And the IRA officially ended in 2005, but many new groups has been formed since. That is all I have to say about the troubles, I have really enjoyed working with this topic, and I’ve learnt a lot.
