Educational Reform Issues NCLB and RTT focus on high-stakes testing. Charter Schools have been compelled to reduce the length of important courses and concentrate more on test preparation by “teaching to the test” rather than promoting a well-rounded education that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. •NCLB and RTT have not effectively addressed the root causes of gaps, such as socioeconomic inequality, inadequate resources, and systemic barriers to educational equity. NCLB/RTT focuses solely on charter schools while public schools are left behind without adequate funding, resources. Public schools do not receive as much attention depending on state’s decision where to allocate money. NCLB and RTT have promoted the implementation of teacher evaluation systems based in part of student test scores. These evaluation systems are punitive, rely on flawed methodologies, and contribute to low teacher morale and high turnover rates. •NCLB and RTT have contributed to the privatization of public education by promoting the expansion of charter schools. Concerns have been raised about the lack of transparency about their school governance as well as the use of public budgets. •The emphasis on accountability and high-stakes testing in charter schools has led to increased stress and burnout among students, teachers, and administrators. This affects students’ and teachers’ well-being and mental health, as well as teacher job satisfaction and retention. NCLB and RTT are two examples of federal overreach in education policy. They enforce top-down mandates and requirements on states and local school districts without providing enough resources or flexibility to meet these mandates. This has created tensions between federal and state policymakers, as well as concerns about the loss of local control over education. •NCLB and RTT initiatives have been criticized for worsening funding disparities between schools serving affluent and low-income students. Due to the focus on test-based accountability, schools serving wealthier students tend to receive more resources, while those in low-income communities often lack adequate funding and resources, leading to unequal opportunities in education.
