Careful reading of detail drawings is essential to proper and efficient installation of an elevator. Hoistway Door Hangers and Tracks. For our last example of a standardized drawing we will look at a detail drawing of a door installation. Refer to PRINT 5 in your print package. PRINT 5 is a detail drawing showing hangers and tracks for center-opening hoistway doors. The drawing includes sections "A-A" and "B-B". In addi- tion, a cutaway view of the sight guards is shown looking down from above. A table at the right side of the drawing shows track lengths for opening widths from 30 inches to 60 inches. After determining door opening width from the elevator layout, the installation mechanic finds the correct track length on this detail drawing. By checking the material list or by physically measuring the tracks shipped, it can be verified that the correct tracks are on the job. View A-A shows a 1/4" clearance at the bottom of the door. The 1/4" clearance indicated between the car sill and interlock rollers cannot be set until the car platform is firmly attached to the car sling. View B-B shows details for attaching the door track to the header. The drawing shows a dimension of 229/32" measured from the under side of the head jamb to the bot- tom of the track. Because this dimension is shown in thirty-seconds of an inch, we can assume it is a critical measurement. Note also a dimension of 18" from the face of the track to the face of the head jamb. You will be working with drawings of this type throughout your career. Review Questions Check your answers on page 24 14. Detail drawings showing the location of limit switches and the loca- tions of are often included in the job folder. on the door 15. After determining door opening width from the elevator layout, the installation mechanic finds the correct track detail drawing. Component Detail Drawings There are many elevator components that come com- pletely assembled as part of an installation assembly. For example, hydraulic control valves, motor starters, control panels, etc. are all single systems which are made of up individual components. Many situations occur where the mechanic will have to disassemble a system to do repairs or maintenance. 5
