Working in any industry is very important to enable us to make sure that we have enough for survival, to get what we want to have in our lives, and to encourage us to make a living by doing what we love. Being able to have a job and being able to make a difference is an honor because we can feel valued and accomplished. However, many jobs in America do not allow us to make sure that we have enough time with our families, our personal needs, and to rest for the next day, which will eventually lead them to feeling burned out. Without having a flexible job, many people will resign and will consider making more time to fulfill their passions that they enjoy. Employees are also held accountable through making sure that each worker has a flexible schedule that allows them to live their lives. Through understanding their concerns and making accommodations for them, they can be able to live their lives, feel empowered, and have reduced stress, which will make it possible for them to stay at their current job. In the workforce, being able to have enough sleep is important to make sure that you have a better life and to feel energized during your day. Through having flexible work hours, they can be able to rest for as long as they need. Also, this reduces conflicts between work, family and social demands. However, by not getting enough sleep, this can lead to numerous consequences, such as “increased sleepiness, slower reaction time, and poor concentration that can impair performance at work (Paech).” Furthermore, due to having a lack of sleep, they can experience changes in their physical health, which eventually leads to developing diseases. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this affected many adults and has diagnosed insufficient sleep as a health epidemic. The researchers hypothesized that if employees can become more flexible with their work schedules, then this would increase in the amount and quality of their sleep. “Approximately half of the participants were randomly assigned to the intervention while the other half continued to work their normal schedule. Importantly, the total number of hours worked did not differ between the two groups (Paech).” As a result, employees from the intervention stated that they were able to have control over their work schedules and to adjust their sleep, which allowed them to leave their worries behind.
