Topics to be covered in my presentation include: What my experience entailed, What I got from this experience, How this experience will help me in my future, and The most impactful moment. What my experience entailed My experience entailed two different roles. The first role was production. On Sunday mornings, I would arrive at the church 45 minutes before church began. The production team would look at a list of things the youth pastor was going to do so we could have the cameras and microphones ready. The second role was assistant. On Wednesday afternoon, I would arrive at the church 3-4 hours before church began. The lead youth volunteer would look at a list of things the youth pastor wanted done, and he would do them or get them done. What I got from this experience I got several things from my experience. One thing I got was exposure to church leadership. Without this internship, I would not have been in offices and meetings where I interacted with church leadership. Another thing I got from this experience was real-life leadership examples. It’s one thing to read about leadership; it’s another thing to see leaders willing to do all of the things: to be the first to arrive and the last to leave, to have the hard discussions, to make the hard decisions, to fill in wherever help was needed. How this experience will help me in my future This experience will help me in numerous ways. One way is, if I attend James River Leadership College, I will know the leaders, teachers, and processes because I have done this internship. If I attend college or training somewhere else, I will know the basic ideas because I have done this internship. And another way is leadership. I learned a lot about leadership during my 10 years as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout, but this internship taught me practical things I never could have learned in another setting. The most impactful moment. The most impactful moment of my internship was probably working at Convoy of Hope. I got to see leaders in a variety of roles. I got to see Convoy’s leadership leading the volunteers; I got to see James River’s leadership positioning lead volunteers where they could best lead others. And I got to see literally hundreds of volunteers come together and assemble tens of thousands of emergency food kits. And it all happened in a matter of several hours. That was incredibly impactful.
