22. THE SALMON AND THE CAT Kate was looking forward to an important dinner party. Her guests would include her husband’s new boss. She wanted to serve a really special meal, so she went to buy a whole salmon. She had been attending a cooking course and she couldn’t wait to show her skill. She cooked and prepared the salmon superbly. The dinner started well, and Kate received many compliments about the starters she served. At one point, she went to get the fish from the kitchen, where she found a rather horrible scene: her cat was sitting on the kitchen table, eating the fish… She threw a shoe at the cat and, in a state of total panic, she quickly disguised the damage putting some carefully placed slices of lemon and cucumber. Then she took the salmon to the dining room. It was a real success! All her guests congratulated her on the delicious meal. After the meal, Kate went into kitchen to make the coffee. A horrible sight met her eyes. Her cat was in agony on the floor…She was convinced that the salmon had made the cat feel sick, so the poor hostess went back to tell her guests what had happened. You can imagine their reaction. They all rushed to the hospital to have their stomach pumped. Kate and all her family had just got back home when the doorbell rang. It was the milkman. “I’ve just called in to see if your cat is all right.” he said. “Why are you saying that?” asked Kate in surprise. “I’m sorry.” Said the milkman. “but this morning I dropped by accident a bottle of milk on its head.” 1- Reproduce the story from the point of view of: Kate b- The milkman 2- Build up a dialogue from this story. 3- A friend told me that… 4- Who said the following and why’ a) ‘I’ve just called in to see if your cat is alright.’ . 5- Complete the following short passages with the help of the key words and phrases provided.
