Who among us hasn’t dreamed of being an overweight scuba diver who hunts fish by day and runs a sushi restaurant at night? Meet Dave the Diver. A casual, single player RPG adventure that has come out of nowhere to delight us all. The gameplay loop is simple, dive into the Blue Hole each morning and afternoon to capture fish and uncover mysteries. At night, run a sushi shop. The loop continues to throw new mechanics at you as you go, keeping it fresh and interesting. Running, managing, staffing and decorating your sushi shop feels very akin to Animal Crossing New Horizons, the mega hit from 2020. And yet each time you dive, the story progresses making it a bit more like Cult of The Lamb, which was one of my favorite games from last year. I love the casual sim games, but like them even more when they have a story with an intended path. I’m only about 10 hours into Dave the Diver and I already am itching for more. If you love light adventure and/or casual Role playing simulations, you have to check out Dave the Diver Available on PC (plays great on Steamdeck) and coming later this year to Switch.
