Climate change is the increasing changes in the environmental conditions of the earth for a long period of time due to internal and external factors. It had become a global concern since 1988 when watershed events placed global warming in the spotlight. According to Marshall McLuhen, "There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth. We are all crew." And therefore I ask what and when was the last thing you did to help save climate change? Human activities have been the main driver of climate change since the 1800s, primarily due to burning fossil fuels, which then became a known issue in 1988. Climate change is real and human-made, and there is overwhelming scientific consensus that this is true therefore, we can not save the Earth's climate change for the things we have already done. Climate change is a problem that has been known for centuries but has yet to be addressed to solve. Historical emissions are causing the greenhouse effect, trapping heat and making the Earth warmer faster than it could happen naturally. Climate change has caused extreme weather events such as flooding and forest fires in Africa and the US, leading to cost concerns for low-lying nations and that is because as economies grow, they consume more energy and produce more carbon dioxide. And each country wants its economy to grow. Companies will do what they need to increase their profits and when the cost is modest to improve their images because business activities can have both direct and indirect environmental impacts on host communities and supply chains, with some of these effects already proven to be irreversible. People are motivated to avoid threats and keep waiting for others to address climate change, leading to a feedback loop of ignorance and irresponsibility making it harder to solve. Higher levels of economic activity are linked to additional energy use and consumption of natural resources, as fossil fuels still account for 80% of the global energy mix. The New Climate Institute has found that companies are not doing enough to meet climate targets and eliminate carbon emissions. Energy is the industry that produces the most pollution, at a rate of more than 15 billion tons due to its dependency on coal, oil, and gas. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) found that in 2018, 89% of global CO2 emissions came from fossil fuels and industry. Despite some of the world's best-known corporations taking action, many of them are not yet doing nearly enough to back up their promises. A common argument against this position is that reforestation helps to slow the rate of climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it. This is a direct effect, as the primary driver of climate change is the over-abundance of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. However, reforestation also impacts climate change as it also anchors soil with their roots. When they are removed, the soil is transported and deposited in other areas releasing carbon into the air. Adding to forests means smaller amounts of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere. It is already said that climate change cannot be stopped. Slowing it down and minimizing its consequences to us means we'll need to reach “net zero” carbon emissions by 2050 or sooner. According to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, in the last 170 years, humans have caused the global temperature to increase to the highest level in the last 2,000 years. Climate change has been known to be a problem for more than a century and yet humans are still not doing anything, thinking that it's fine because there are billions of other people taking care of the Earth. Humans have been the cause of climate change for their survival, such as manufacturing goods for clothes to wear, and cement to build houses with, cutting down forests to build farms and creating items of furniture, and generating power using fossil fuels because large power stations, we have been used with it being the source of electricity and to power engines.
