Bacterial infections can spread by different ways as by droplet, direct or in direct contact, vector, or by any vehicle as contaminated food or water. There can be many different types of infections, depending on how we are exposed and what part of our body it infects. Now lets get into what are antimicrobials. The drugs used to prevent the pathogenecity of microbes are antimicrobial agents which are of different types as antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-parasitic. Antimicrobial resistance is a growing threat which results in strains of microbes which are resistant to antimicrobial agents. This results in the increased danger of treating the diseases which becomes untreatable because of the antimicrobial resistance. So it is necessary to have awareness about antimicrobial resistance. Prevention and responsible use of antimicrobials is necessary to avoid the threat of antimicrobial resistance. Responsible use of antibiotics and proper disposal of unused and expired drugs, as well as waste from relevant industries ensures that these precious pharmaceuticals stay out of the environment as much as possible and reduces the risk of development of resistant bacteria. Some measures are also taken by the government for combating the misuse of antimicrobials. Followed by notification by Government of India to omit 40 drugs from schedule H, the drugs are included in new schedule H1. Major objective of schedule H1 is to control the unrestricted use of anti-biotics. This thereby helps in preventing the abuse of anti-biotics thereby preventing antimicrobial resistance.
