Women's colleges have long been recognized for their ability to prepare young female graduates to be influential leaders, communicators, and critical thinkers—influencers such as Hillary Clinton, the first woman nominated by major parties for president. Geraldine Ferraro the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party as a candidate for vice president. Katharine Graham, the first woman CEO of a Fortune 500 company, and Madeleine Albright, the first woman secretary of state, are all successful women who graduated from Women-based universities. If you want to achieve this level of success, a women's College may be the best fit for you. Articles, "Want Your Daughter To Go To The C- Suite? Send Her To A Women's College," Written by Carrie Kerpen, and "Why Your Daughter Should Consider A Women's College," Written by Cheryl Gottlieb Boxer, both focus on the proper attributes of attending a women's based College. While also illuminating the qualities of leadership, networking, and the general comfort that a women's College offers its students. "L" what does that stand for? Leadership! Leadership plays a significant role in society, but unfortunately, only a few women are in leadership roles. In the article "Want Your Daughter To Go To The C – Suite? Send Her To A Women's College", Carrie Kerpen believes that young women should look no further than women's colleges. "Research continues to show that women's colleges prepare their students and provide a pipeline for women's leadership in ways that coed institutions cannot." (Kerpen 2) According to Kerpen, Women's Colleges also allows young women to be comfortable with their voice while pointing them in the right direction for future success. In comparison to 61% of young women who attended public institutions, 81% of female college graduates say their College was highly influential in preparing them for their first job. (Kerpen p. 2) Cheryl Gottlieb Boxer, author of the article "Why Your Daughter Should Consider A Women's College," also argues on the topic of leadership by apprising her audience that Women's Colleges better prepare women to take on prominent roles. "A study from the Women's College Coalition found that women's colleges produced a greater proportion of entrepreneurs than their coed counterparts." (Boxer 2 ). Women's colleges offer smaller classes that may lead to their success as entrepreneurs or in other majors, such as STEM and medical doctoral programs. As Boxer proclaims, smaller classes contribute to long-lasting connections, supportive faculty-student networks, and career mentoring opportunities. Single-gender institutions have empowered young women in directions, unlike any other educational establishment. According to Kerpen and Boxer, a women's college environment is more pleasant than a coed institution. Women-focused organizations strive to empower women by assisting them in sinking their battleships and encouraging them to be the best they can be. Kerpen also mentions how women's colleges have been open and accepting of trans and genderfluid students, indicating that women's colleges value one's secret self. Boxer adds that women at single-sex institutions act more freely regarding campus life participation and social gatherings, providing a warm welcome to their scholars. As a woman studying at a women's College, This experience has benefited me tremendously. I love walking in with warm welcomes, friendly smiles from the staff, and the feeling of being secure afterward. I have never been in such a pleasant environment. Ursuline College provides proper education, student learning strategies, and small classrooms to guarantee my success. I have always struggled with human interaction. However, I have made amazing friends here from the social activities the College offers. No, a women's College may not seem pleasant at first, but the more you see how advantageous a women's university can be, you will love it. In Conclusion, women's colleges have long been regarded as capable of preparing young female graduates to become influential leaders. "Why Your Daughter Should Consider A Women's College," written by Cheryl Gottlieb Boxer, and "Want Your Daughter To Go To The C – Suite? Send Her To A Women's College," both focus on the benefits of attending a women's College. While also highlighting the leadership, networking, and general comfort that a women's College provides its students. However, although evidence shows women's institutions come with many benefits choosing a women's university is still based on preference.
