A 6.9 magnitude earthquake hits the southeast part of Taiwan at 2:44pm on September 18, 2022. The tremor destroyed a 7/11 store, an apartment building and also bridges. It also shook trains, caused rocks to fall off the mountain and cracks on the streets. The good news is, many people were saved. Earthquakes happen in many places like Taiwan. But, what is earthquake and why does it happen? Earthquake is the shaking of the earth’s surface. Earth’s surface is like a puzzle. Each piece of the puzzle is called a tectonic plate. Each tectonic plate are always moving. When two tectonic plates move against each other, it creates a lot of energy which is released to the surface. This is why earthquake happens.
