The leaf with a smiling pattern. The flock of leaves flew through the city drawn by the strong autumn winds. One leaf, with something like a smile pattern, lingered for a moment, looking inside one of the windows. A little boy was sitting on a bed. The leaf scratched the window with its drying edge. - May I come in? – asked the Leaf. The Boy opened the window and let the Leaf in. - I was always dreaming of seeing inside the room. - Yeah, nothing special. I play here. - So let’s play? – asked the leaf and leaped to the ceiling. The Boy laughed and started jumping on the bed trying to catch a dancing Leaf. Then they played seek and hide. Then the boy took a leaf for a ride on his toy truck. - Tomorrow we can play again, - said the boy. - Tomorrow I will need to fly away. - Why? - It’s just time, - said the Leaf. The boy kept silent. - I will come back, - said the Leaf softly. The boy turned to the wall. - My mom also said so when she went to the hospital, - he said under his breath, - but she never did. The leaf gently rustled but did not say anything. What can one say? In the morning the boy opened the window and the leaf with a tiny smile pattern left his hands and joined the others swirling in the air until it became invisible… The winter came and passed, followed by early spring. The boy was thinking about the Leaf often but now it seemed that it all had happened in a dream. After all, no one has ever talked to leaves. In summer the boy and his dad went to the park for a walk as they often did. It was a lovely day, the sun was bursting through the lush foliage and sunbeams were shuffling the grass. Suddenly the Boy felt someone stroke his hair. He raised his head. A big green leaf with a tiny smile pattern was swaying on a branch. - Remember me? – asked the Leaf, - let’s play, shall we?
