The first chapter is all about the Overview of Catanduanes. It includes history, Pre-Spanish Period, Christian/Evangelization, Filipinism, American Regime, Japanese Occupation, The Origin of its name, Creation of The Local Government Units and Political Districts. Location and Boundary, Land Area and, Political Subdivision of the province. Chapter 2 discusses the Physical Characteristics including Topography, Climate, Land Classification, and Biological Features of Catanduanes. Chapter 3 or Population And Housing in which data is primarily based from 2015 and 2020 Census of Population conducted every five years by Philippine Statistics Authority. This chapter is all about Population and Household, Population Growth Rate, Population Density, Age-Sex Pyramid, Sex Ratio, Major Occupation, Religious Affiliation, Ethnicity and Housing. Chapter 4 contains compiled vital statistics from documents on vital events registered at the Municipal Civil Registry Offices located all over the province and was submitted to the Philippine Statistics Authority and was encoded in the Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS). These are statistics about birth, death and marriages. Chapter 5, Health And Welfare. This chapter presents data on important modes of education at the provincial level and employment at the regional level based on the results of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Other contributing agencies are Department of Education, Catanduanes State University, Christian Polytechnic Institute of Catanduanes, Inc., Technical Education and Skills Development Authority – Catanduanes, Department of Science and Technology – Catanduanes. Chapter 7 – Income, Prices, and Poverty. This chapter contains data about income, consumer price index, Inflation Rate, Retail Prices, Family Income and Expenditure, Poverty Threshold and Poverty Incidence. Main source of data are, Department of Finance, Bureau of Internal Revenue – Catanduanes and Philippine Statistics Authority. Chapter 8 – is about Agriculture and Fisheries. Data on agriculture and fisheries are crucial for government planning for this sector to ensure enough food supply for the population. Agriculture and fisheries are the backbone of the economic system since it contributes a lot to the economy of the country. Other than food and raw materials, it also provides employment opportunities to a large proportion of the population. This chapter contains statistics with regards to agriculture and fisheries such as agriculture production and productivity and livestock and poultry. Chapter 9, Transportation and Communication. This chapter presents the data on all modes of transportation at the provincial level. The data of the national road, provincial road and bridges length and surface type provided by the Department of Public Works and Highways and Office of the Provincial Engineer are presented in this chapter. On the land transport, the data presented includes data on registration of motor vehicles and issued licenses and permits by the Land Transportation Office of Catanduanes. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines – Provincial Office is the source of data for air mode transportation; it includes the data covering the movement of aircraft and the volume of passengers and cargo handled. Shipping from the Philippine Ports Authority is likewise presented Chapter 10, Energy And Water Resources. This chapter presents provincial, municipal and barangay statistics on power and water distribution. Thanks to First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FICELCO) and Virac Water District for helping us in formulating the statistics. Chapter 11, Industry And Tourism. This chapter presents the data on number of establishments in the province per sector. The data on accommodation such as hotel establishments, number of rooms per establishments by municipality and tourist arrival per year and by tourist type is also presented in this chapter. The sources of data for this chapter are the Philippines Statistics Authority, Provincial Tourism Office of Catanduanes and Department of Science and Technology – Catanduanes. Chapter 12, Social Services. Data on social services will guide the government planners on how they are going to enhance their existing programs. It will also help them in planning and developing new programs that will benefit the families, individuals, groups and the community as a whole. Social services aim to help in meeting the basic human needs of all people with particular attention to the needs of those people who are vulnerable, oppressed and living in poverty. The Provincial and Department of Social Welfare and Development – Catanduanes form part in this chapter. Chapter 13, Public Order, Safety and Justice. This chapter presents provincial data on crimes and the number of policemen and firemen, fire incidences, including deaths and property damages, law enforcement cases handled, and legal assistance extended. The sources of data for this chapter are the Philippine National Police for the data on crimes, law enforcers; the Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology for the fire incidences and jail population; and the Public Attorney’s Office on cases handled and legal assistance services. In terms of Philippine Identification System, the province strutted a commendable performance from the outset of the Step 2 Registration last June to December of 2021 being recognized by Central Office as the highest reached in target. As of October 25, 2022, over 226,988 Catandunganons were registered translating to 95% of the total overall target. This publication is a commitment of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Catanduanes Provincial Statistical Office to making local level statistics more available and accessible to all Catandunganons.
