Dramatic Center: How Learning Happens. Engaging in dramatic play enhances young children's development. Pretending builds social skills, makes children more aware of their emotions, and encourages shared language and problem-solving. Educator's Role in the Dramatic Centre. Educators can set up a dramatic play environment based on students' interests. They can model and engage in pretend to play with students and provide suggestions to further their ideas. Suggested Location. The dramatic center should be close to other noisy areas in the classroom (such as the block center). Ideally, this center should be near areas that have shelves, furniture, and walls. Best keep away from areas that require the space to be quiet and reflective. Suggested Materials. Clothing (i.e. hats, scarves, jewelry, dresses, etc), fabrics, purses, dolls, doll beds, kitchen sets, toy highchairs, toy food, kitchen utensils, etc. Something to Think About: What are some ways to promote cultural diversity through dramatic play?
