It all began in the 1960s when an educator began his research in reading achievement and its relation to brain development. His name is Dr Paul Dennison. Dr Dennsion was granted a Doctorate in Education for his research on beginning reading and its relationship to cognitive development and silent speech (thinking) skills. This will eventually be the basis and foundation of the Brain Gym program. With the discovery of the impact of physical movements is closely connected to brain activities and academic achievements, he began to develop Educational Kinesiology. Eventually, he collaborated with a fellow movement educator, Gail, who later on became his wife and partner founding the Brain Gym program. The Brain Gym activities, which include learning through movements, incorporate activities and exercises naturally done during the first few years of a person’s life. This is known as the original 26 Brain Gym Movements. Since its establishment over 20 years, teachers, parents, and children have testified to the effectiveness of the Brain Gym movements and how it has helped them learn better, teach better, and even have a positive outlook on life. Brain Gym is currently being used, taught in over 87 countries and translated into more than 40 languages.
