On 01 November 1963 a new star started shining in the Regiment of Arty. One Double Sikh. The force One Double Sikh was raised on 01 November 1963 at Jalandhar Cantt under the command of Lieutenant Colonel (Later Major General) Rajeshwar Singh, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal by drawing a battery each from 3, 13 and 62 Field Regiments. The class composition of the Regiment is Sikh. The regiment has had a variety of Arty Guns to include 25 Pounders Gun, 1O5 M M IFG, 75 M M Pack Howitzer, 122 M M D30 Howitzer, 1O5 M M LFG and 1 30 M M Russian Field Gun. On 01 September 1965, even before the young Regiment could celebrate the second anniversary of its raising, the regiment received mobilisation orders to be part of Operation Ablaze. During Indo Pak war of 1965, the blazing guns of the regiment under the able command of Lieutenant Colonel (Later Major General ) Rajeshwar Singh, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, provided relentless and accurate fire power for the attack on Maharajke and supported 1 Armoured Brigade for the capture of Phillora. The Regiment also inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy in the operational areas of Chawinda, Jasraon and Sangatpur. During the entire operation, the brave Khalsas of the Regiment fought gallantly & displayed dedication of highest order to safeguard the sanctity of the Motherland. During the hard fought battle, the Regiment fired 7956 rounds and suffered 19 Fatal Casualties. Lieutenant Colonel Rajeshwar Singh, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal was awarded Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card and five Other ranks were mentioned in despatches ( Posthumously). For next one year the regiment was located in its peace location at Pathankot. On 25 July 1966, First commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Rajeshwar Singh, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal handed over the reins of the regiment to Major SL Dhawan. In February 1967, the regiment moved to Agartala. Charged up khalsas after proving their mettle in the Battlefield, dominated the formation in sports and professional competitions during this tenure. In January 1970, The Regiment moved to Faridkot. The gallant Khalsas were called once again to wreak havoc on the enemy during 1971 Indo-Pak war. In Operation Cactus Lily, the Regiment was deployed near Fazilka under the able command of lieutenant colonel (Later brigadier) N N Rawat. The Regiment provided accurate and intimate fire support for the recapture of Choriwala Chisti, Pakka and Muazzam. The capture of Ghazi post and recapture of GG 1 and GG 2 were greatly facilitated by accurate fire power provided by the Regiment. The Regiment fired 14661 rounds during the entire operations and suffered 3 fatal casualties. Lieutenant Colonel (Later Brigadier) N N Rawat and Naik (O R A) (Later Honorary Captain) Ajit Singh were awarded Vir Chakra for their immense courage and Bravery. Captain (Later Colonel) RS Sodhi & Lance Naik Parkash Singh were mentioned in despatches. In December 1974, the Regiment reached Talbehat and underwent conversion training for 1O5 M M IFG. The Regiment has the singular honour of being the first unit in Regiment of Arty to be equipped with 1O5 M M IFG. In January 1977, One Battery of the Regiment was also selected to participate in the Republic Day Parade at Delhi. The Regiment spent next three years in Pattan & Sharifabad. The Regiment displayed sheer professionalism in maintaining peace in the most active Counter Insurgency areas. In September 1982, the Regiment meticulously executed the duties of conducting the state funeral of late Chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Jenab Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah by providing Gun carriage and coordinating all the security measures amidst serious security threats. In March 1984, the Regiment moved to Binnaguri and underwent conversion training for 75 M M Pack Howitzers. In June 1987, the 'Quebic’ Battery of the Regiment undertook a flood relief operation in Katihaar District Of Bihar as part of Operation Vyavastha and rescued more than 500 locals from various pockets of Katihaar for which the unit was highly appreciated. Same year, the Regiment celebrated its silver Jubilee at Binnaguri under the command of Colonel R S Sodhi. In January 1988, The regiment moved to LEKHAPANI and During this tenure, under Operation Bajrang, the Regiment apprehended 3 hardcore ULFA militants including 2 trainers from Burma. The regiment also carried out extensive civic activities to include organising medical camps and development of sports infrastructure for poor & downtrodden communities of the village Bardolai as part of Operation Rhino and Operation Sahayog. In March 1992, the Regiment moved to Nasirabad under 12 Arty Brigade and was tasked to carry out Internal security duties in riot prone areas of Ahmedabad. After having displayed sheer professionalism in Operational tasks, the Regiment also dominated in all formation level competitions during this tenure. Subedar Hardip Singh of the unit represented India in international Kabaddi Tournaments in 1984 & 1990 and was the captain of Indian Kabaddi Team in Asian Games in Bejeing in the year 1990. For his unparalleled sportsmanship in kabaddi he was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in the year 1992. In September 1995 the Regiment was inducted in Operation Meghdoot and started its tenure in the frozen frontiers of Siachen, the highest battlefield in the world. The Regiment provided accurate fire support to the affiliated Infantry units and caused heavy and large-scale destruction of the enemy and its infrastructure during this tenure. In September 1997, the regiment moved to Ferozepur. The gallant Khalsas were once again geared up to be deployed in operation Vijay in the year 1999. During OPERATION Vijay, the O P officers of the regiment manned B O Ps in their Operational Areas and provided real time intelligence to higher Headquarters during the entire operations. In September 2000, the regiment moved to Tangdhaar. In the Year 2002 orders were received by the Regiment to induct in OPERATION Parakram. Once again the Blazing Guns of the Regiment effectively engaged Enemy targets along Neelam Valley Road & inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. The regiment also carried out extensive civic activities in Tangdhaar as part of Operation Sadhbhavna. After successful tenure in Tangdhar the Regiment moved to Meerut, while in Meerut, Paapaa battery of the Regiment had the honour to serve as ceremonial battery in New Delhi. During the tenure at Meerut, the regiment excelled in all professional and sports competitions. In July 2007 the Regiment moved to Nimu. During this tenure the Regiment constructed new Gun Positions, Helipads and carried out de- pillaring of the Guns in the most difficult and inhospitable terrain. The regiment also took part in Exercises Him brahman, Him Trishul and Jogi Patrol. For its commendable performance in OPERATION Meghdoot the regiment was awarded with General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command unit Appreciation, under the able Command of Colonel ( Now Major General ) Siddharth Chawla. After a 2 and a half years of tenure at Nimu, the Regiment moved to sagar in October 2009. This is for the first time that the regiment was converted from field to medium. The regiment performed exceptionally well in this tenure and became Divisional Champions in various competitions. In 2012 the Regiment Celebrated its Golden Jubilee at Sagar under the able command of Colonel R N Tewari. In 2016, the regiment moved to Nagrota and was deployed in OPERATION Rakshak. The Regiment executed Operational tasks of manning Anti Infiltration Obstacle System column and Operation Shiva in the most professional manner. On 29 November 2016, three terrorists disguised in police uniform attacked the Officers Mess complex. Major Kunal Gosavi deployed the unit Quick reaction team and cordoned the building and evacuated the occupants with total disregard to his personal safety. While evacuating the occupants he came under heavy volume of fire from the terrorists and was grievously injured. Despite injuries he continued to pin down the terrorists and later succumbed to his injuries. Major Kunal Gosavi made supreme sacrifice while gallantly leading his men and was awarded Shaurya chakra, posthumously. The unit suffered two Fatal Casualties in this operation. The power of Khalsas was once again reflected during the smooth induction of Regiment in 10 Core Zone in a very short notice during OPERATION Zaafran. During this tenure the Regiment effectively managed COVID-19 pandemic and ensured zero cases of COVID in the unit while maintaining Operational readiness of the highest order. Thereafter, the regiment moved to Jaisalmer in November 2021 under the Orbat of 12 Artillery Brigade for the second time. The Regiment in a very short span of time has displayed its sheer professionalism and capabilities by undertaking and successfully executing various Operational and administrative tasks on behalf of the formation. A total of 22 Commanding officers have commanded this elite unit - The One Double Sikh since its raising. These officers with their idealism, intellect & courage have nurtured One Double Sikh into a formidable fighting force which will forever stand tall upon its motto of Har Maidan Fateh.
