Good morning everyone ! I'm Bruna Soares, I guess you don't know me, so let me tell you that I'm a member of the famous Green Peace organisation. We work globally and use peaceful protest to highlight environmental issues and promote solutions. I was invited here today to talk to you specifically about climate change. You may know it, it's about temperatures increasing and worst weather conditions. It can be a natural phenomenon, yes, but it's now the result of human activity, including the massive use of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil and gas). This is a subject that governments say is a priority, but no real improvement has been observed. Were policies put in place by the heads of state ? Yes. Were promises made ? Yes. Were they kept ? Not really ! The economy and profits seem to prevail in the face of the threat that currently weighs on our planet, on us ! There is a loss of biodiversity due to the limited adaptability of species, there are floods and forest fires, deforestation, there is a melting of ice leading to the rise of the sea. There are climate refugies, communities forced to leave home. We can not ignore this anymore. Protecting life and human race is not just an option. We are not presidents, we are not leaders, but we are billions of people and we can make a difference ! Nobody is going to turn into a superhero, but there are simple everyday actions that help. Choose public transport instead of your car on every trip, you will save money, by the way. Reduce waste, recycle, reuse. Try to reduce your electricity consumption, paying attention to lights and heating for example. Let's be honest, we all know these little things are important, but we don't always do our best to respect them. Let's think about future generations, the difficulties our children and grandchildren will face, the future of our planet, which is our home. Let's make a change, all together. Thank you for your attention, and thank you bbc for the invitation.
