Any Home Automation equipment will generally require a form of data connection, with the exception of self-sustaining equipment such as robot vacuums and other devices that can, but do not require remote control capability. Most data connection providers today offer a minimum latency that is plenty to support several remote-controlled IoT devices at once. Generally, it's said that for every 10-12 devices that require, or can utilize, a data connection, you should shoot for 5Mbps. That means with a 50Mbps data connection (most providers' lowest package) you can support up to 100 devices! Of course, keep in mind that these are low-bandwidth devices. Streaming/gaming speeds will need to be higher, especially if you also have a plethora of home IoT devices connected.
