Without education, it is difficult for others to elevate their socioeconomic status and benefit from the power that wealthier people have. In a New York Times article about the lifelong benefits of education, David Kirp says, “Good early education accelerates upward social mobility across generations” (Kirp). Education elevates an individual's socioeconomic status because people with a quality education are more likely to attain higher-paying jobs. High income jobs tend to be the occupations where people hold high positions in power, but without education, attaining power is nearly impossible. The voice of the economically disadvantaged is inferior to those of a higher socioeconomic status because they do not possess the education that grants them power to enact change.
