Autumn is here and so are the Asian Lady Beetles that have invaded the Czech Republic. Asian Lady beetle is also known as an Asian Ladybug. It is a little bigger than a normal Czech Lady beetle and has an orange colour with many black dots. This species has a very high breeding ability. Females can lay over two thousand eggs in their lives. In Asia these Lady beetles fly to rocks to hibernate in their crevices during winter. However in Czechia they fly into the houses which causes problems. In the 20th century, Asian Lady beetle was intentionally brought to North America as a natural predator. It was brought to Europe for the same reason. Unfortunately it started to force out the indigenous species. For example the Seven-spotted Lady Beetle. In the areas where people grow grapes the Asian Lady beetle is a disaster. It’s not easy at all to get rid of these Lady beetles. What works the best is prevention - simply you mustn't let them inside your home. However we cannot stop opening our windows. The best way to deal with these beetles is to vacuum them with a hoover and a sock and then dispose of them. Try not to touch them. Do you have any experience with these lady bugs? Do they bother you?
